Newsletter September 2015
Lots to talk about this edition. We’re nearing our new summer season, so are busy tidying up the winery and vineyard and getting ready for all the frosts. There's 2 months of frost fighting to do!! No real frosts yet, but a couple of events we've had to turn on the frost protection.
Almost ready for summer hours to begin at the end of next month. Hopefully we have some great weather for our visiting tourists and locals and we survive the long season!
We have our first new release for the 2014 season coming this month, with our ever popular Passion Rosé from 2014. Tasting of blackberries and raspberries. Sure to be a crowd pleaser again on those hot days and great with a cheese platter.
We have our 2014 Medium-Dry Riesling being released at the same time.
New Wines coming soon
We have started doing some Fortified wine, picking some Malbec in 2014 vintage and now securely in barrels. It is rare to have Malbec in a fortified wine, so hopefully this will be something unique for us in New Zealand. We love the rich colour and flavour of the grape and makes it so different than the usual Port or Cabernet fortifieds in NZ.
Our first Cabernet Merlot ever will be bottled this year. This will be our top wine from 2013 and all indications are it is amazing. We use 5 grapes to hand craft this beauty. Mainly new oak and aged for 2 years.
Fat Monk Beer Label
This will be our second season of beer with our brand Fat Monk. This time we will have lots more in bottle to take away.
Pilsner, Pacific Pale, American IPA, India Red Ale, White IPA with Mango and some seasonals.
We will also be doing lots of one off beers and trials over the summer in keg. We also do flagon filling.
We had a great year last year with our Saturday Avo sessions, so we will be offering them again for most Saturdays over the summer when possible. 16 are booked in already. Bring a picnic and grab one of our cold whites or rose from the fridge!
That's what Hawke's Bay is all about 🙂
Amelia Riwai is on her fifth vintage with us already. She has brought a lot of character, aroma and vibrancy into our wines, which make them ever more approachable to all our customers. Amelia has shown to be very dynamic with our demands for lots of different wine styles the last few years!
The team have been busy tastings at all your local centres. From Matakana right down to Wellington with boutique wine shops, Liquorlands and New Worlds. Almost weekly there is a team member doing a tasting somewhere in NZ.
We have also completed a grand tour of most of the New Zealand foodshows throughout the country over winter..
Biking - Cycle the Bridge Pa Triangle
This has picked up over the last couple of seasons with the regional council putting in safe limestone paths around all the wineries. It's a great day social day out!
